Our Story

The Morgan's Shoes & Bootery Story

Doug Morgan opened his first shoe store on June 15, 1995 on S. New Hope Road in Gastonia. Soon after, he decided to add medical uniforms. In 2014 he relocated to 2755 East Franklin Blvd, in the former Nissan Dealership location. The original location only had 8,000 square feet. The new location has about 40,000 square feet. He also relocated the 8 deer heads to display on the wall at E. Franklin Blvd in his Suburban. He has a sense of humor! (See photo)

Doug caught the shoe sales bug from his father, who founded a store in Asheville, NC. He came to Gastonia around 1985 as an accountant but eventually opened the original store with his brother and sister.

The new store required quite a bit of renovation. All 15 of the vehicle lifts in the service area had to be removed. Staircases now lead to employee offices, a break area and a full kitchen.

Doug enjoys cooking, is quite a good cook, and his staff very often benefits from that.

One of the most unique details about the renovation is the 100-year-old barn doors that were incorporated onto the 4 fitting rooms and in other places throughout the store. They were originally on guest rooms at the original Hotel Charlotte. The doors still have the room numbers on them. The Hotel Charlotte opened in 1924 and was demolished in 1988. Doug had the opportunity to purchase 12 of the doors that had been salvaged and tucked away in a local warehouse. Look for them when you come in.

Vicki Robinson reviewed Morgan's Shoes & Bootery - June 26, 2018

I was in your store yesterday, 6-26-18, to find a pair of shoes that I could wear with a brace I need to wear on my foot. The sales associate that helped me, went out of her way to find something that I would be able to use. I really appreciate her kindness and wiliness to find shoes and bring them to me to try. I didn't get her name, but hope that she knows what a gem she is to her customers! Thank You! Vicki

I loved shopping for shoes for my son. His foot is long and wide. They had shoes in his size and we were directed straight to where they were. I give them a huge thumbs up.
